1,432 Days. The Journey to Los Angeles Begins Now.

1,432 days.

Paris is over. And it is now 1,432 days until the opening ceremony of the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympic Games.

But we don’t measure swimming in Olympic Games. Not in this corner of sports, anyway.

That’s 34 grueling six-week training blocks. 204 Fun Fridays and recovery Sundays to reflect on the work completed.

That’s a few thousand college dual meets, including one that is going to feel a lot like an NCAA dual meet championship in January in Austin.

That’s 24 electric NCAA Championship meets. 4 mid-season invites. NAIA, NJCAA Championships, California Collegiate College Championships.

At least 10,000 swimmers will be named high school state champions between now and then. Another 10,000 will win an LSC Championship.

Hundreds of summer leagues around the world will celebrate their own titles in their own humble six-lane pools, and for those swimmers the moments will all feel the same as if they were descending from the depths of So-Fi stadium in front of tens-of-thousands. Those are the moments where dreams ignite

From lonely moments of disappointment to fully-clothed cannonballs, these are the staccato that make swimming great. Chasing that next moment.

And not all of the work is work, either. At least not in the traditional sense. Some athletes will take well-earned breaks after a summer of intensity, and those breaks are a crucial part of the work too, as we’re learning more-and-more each Olympic cycle.

Some swimmers will end their careers in the next 47 months.

There are some swimmers who will see an entire rise and fall to their careers before the flame is lit in Inglewood on July 14. And somewhere, a future Olympic medalist is training in obscurity, unknown yet unstoppable.”

47 Coaches of the Month. 50,000 SwimSwam articles. Because each of these moments are part of the story of the sport, the moments that form the foundation of the why that supplements the what of the summer of 2028.

And all of it because for us, for you, for the Olympians, for this community, swimming isn’t once every four years. It lives every day, in every stroke, in every taken mark, in every main set. The work is done every day. The journey begins now.

Make every moment count.
