The San Francisco 49ers are finally in the news for something other than the Brandon Aiyuk situation.

They recently made a couple of roster moves ahead of their upcoming first preseason game against the Tennessee Titans.

According to insider Nick Wagoner, San Francisco waived safety Erik Harris and wide receiver Terique Owens.

Additionally, the Niners signed running back Ke’shawn Vaughn and wide receiver Jontre Kirklin.

Starting with Harris, the 34-year-old safety has been a journeyman during his football career.

After going undrafted out of California University of Pennsylvania in 2012, he spent three seasons in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Then, he made the jump to play in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints in 2016, the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders from 2017-20, the Atlanta Falcons from 2021-22, and finally the 49ers in 2023.

He will now be looking for yet another home.

Owens, an undrafted rookie out of Missouri State and the son of former 49ers great Terrell Owens, was waived with an injury designation (fractured hand).

Vaughn was selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was waived in December of last year. He most recently was on the practice squad of the New England Patriots.

Finally, Kirklin, a former national champion at LSU, has spent time in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints.

He also spent time in the XFL with the Houston Roughnecks and in the UFL with the San Antonio Brahmas, where he tied for the league lead in receptions.

With the 49ers a contending team, the moves they make are always going to be of some significance because of how close they’ve gotten to winning the Super Bowl in recent years.
