The first order of business right now for the San Francisco 49ers is to get healthy so they will have enough horses to improve their record.

Running back Christian McCaffrey, wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle, all of whom have made the Pro Bowl, sat out Week 3, and McCaffrey will miss at least two more games while on injured reserve with Achilles tendinitis.

Samuel is listed as questionable for the Week 4 game against the New England Patriots, and Kittle will play, but left tackle Trent Williams has an injured toe and is questionable, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

While McCaffrey is San Francisco’s do-everything back, and quarterback Brock Purdy is one of the NFL’s best at his position, many feel Williams is the team’s most valuable player on offense.

He has made the Pro Bowl 11 times and been named to the All-Pro First Team in each of the past three seasons, and he is almost an immovable object on the left side of the 49ers’ offensive line.

The center and right tackle positions have been weak to start the season, but Williams holds things down, even at age 36.

Without McCaffrey, Samuel and Kittle in Week 3, Purdy was 22-of-30 for 292 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, and despite losing to the Los Angeles Rams, he won over a few of the national pundits who have been slighting him as nothing more than a game manager.

San Francisco has two NFC West games coming up, at home against the pesky Arizona Cardinals in Week 5 and at the Seattle Seahawks on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 6.
