The Baltimore Ravens lost their first two games of this season despite being picked by some to reach the Super Bowl, and they finally got a win when they held on to defeat the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3.

In that game, the Ravens were called for 13 penalties, and some of them, at least in the minds of their players, were questionable.

Late in the fourth quarter, quarterback Lamar Jackson was heard saying, “Stop cheating us, bro,” an apparent reference to those penalties.

Jackson recently was asked about that comment, and he claimed he wasn’t addressing the referees who were calling the game.

“I wasn’t mad at the refs. The refs are doing their job. Whatever they see, they’re going to call it. They only got two eyes. They can’t see everything,” Jackson said, via Sarah Ellison of “The Vault” podcast. “… I was like, ‘Stop cheating us,’ but I wasn’t talking to them. I’m just talking out into the world. I’m playing football. I’m trying to win.”

Right before Jackson made his in-game comment, Baltimore’s Chris Board had been called for a holding penalty when Dallas kicked off following a touchdown, and that penalty set the Ravens back.

Though Baltimore’s offense has been functioning just fine so far this season, its defense, which has been its calling card over the years, hasn’t.

The Ravens have been able to stop the run but are tied for 24th in points allowed and last in passing yards given up.

Part of the problem has been a lack of pressure on the quarterback from the edge, as the Ravens have a couple of excellent linebackers but could use some more help in their front seven.

Their schedule won’t get easier for a little while, as they host the Buffalo Bills in Week 4 before visiting the Cincinnati Bengals in an important AFC North clash in Week 5.
