Aug. 26—RAPID CITY — Several Mitchell-area golfers competed in the South Dakota Golf Association’s men’s senior and pre-senior championship at The Golf Club at Red Rock this past weekend.
Among area participants, Mitchell’s Brad Buche and Wessington Springs’ Larry Keeton were the highest finishers.
Buche competed in the senior 55-and-over division where he finished tied for second place with a two-day total of 159, carding a 78 on Saturday against Red Rock’s par-72 layout. Flandreau’s Derek Burshiem shot a 3-over 75 on Sunday to take home the title with a final score of 156.
Meanwhile, Keeton also finished in a tie for second place in the 70-and-over division. He had a chance to grab the title when he competed in a seven-hole playoff with Rapid City’s Dave Stewart and Rick Brady with all three golfers tied at 159 at the end of the 36-hole event. Brady eventually won the playoff and took home the championship. Mitchell’s David Fridley also competed in the same division and finished in 12th place with a 207.
In the pre-senior division, Mitchell’s Jeff Meyerink finished in fourth place with a two-day total of 152 and Brandon Sigmund finished in ninth place with a 154. Rapid City’s Jeff Salter took home the championship with a total score of 4-under 140 following a 7-under 65 on Saturday.
In the senior Rushmore division, Mitchell’s Tim McCain finished in 14th with a total score of 172. Sturgis’ Steve Keszler won the division with a two-day total of 151. In the senior Oahe division, Mitchell’s Gary Jackson came in fourth place with a two-day event total of 180. Rapid City’s Marv White won with a 173.
The next SDGA events are the two-man championships on Saturday, Sep. 7, in Sioux Falls. The senior two-man championship will be held at Bakker Crossing Golf Course, while the mid-amateur and the pre-senior two-man championships will be held at Prairie Green Golf Course.
