Oliver Morgan will return to finish his degree at the University of Birmingham in September

Swimmer Ollie Morgan will return to university to finish his studies now his Olympics is over.

Morgan came 4th at Paris 2024 with Team GB in the men’s 4x100m medley relay, and finished 8th in the 100m backstroke final.

The 21-year-old from Bishops Castle, Shropshire, will finish his final year studying sport, physical education and coaching sciences at the University of Birmingham.

“Once he knew he was definitely going to Paris, the university let him stop his degree, until September,” said dad Matt Morgan.

“He’s going to finish his last year and get it out of the way,” he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

Next on the agenda is the 2025 Aquatics GB Swimming Championships, held in London in April.

It is the key selection event for the World Aquatics Championships, which are held in Singapore later next year.

“British champs is more nerve wracking for me than actually going to the Olympics or worlds,” said Mr Morgan.

“Because if you don’t make British champs, you don’t get there.”

‘Andy Murray photo’

Mr Morgan said his son’s Olympic journey had been amazing.

“The bigger the scene, the more he enjoys it, and that’s what makes a good athlete,” he said.

“If you can cope with the pressure at the big events, that’s when you make your name.

“He’s met up with Andy Murray, and Andy Murray actually asked the medley relay team for a photograph, he found that a bit of a weird one.”
