Australia U18 head coach Shannon Fraser has announced his side to face the New Zealand Schools at the Chiefs’ home ground, FMG Stadium Waikato on Sunday, November 6th – the final match of their tour across the ditch.
The young side got their tour underway earlier this week with a thrilling, frenetic clash against the NZ Barbarians – the 57-47 shootout highlighting some incredible tries – although plenty of questions could be asked about the defence.
The NZ Schools will offer plenty of questions in that regard, however, Fraser has rewarded form with most of the starting squad unchanged.
The big name going into the tour, new Waratah Zach Fittler – the son of NRL legend Brad Fittler – has retained his spot as the centres’ bench option after a mixed performance on Wednesday, making several good runs but also several errors.
However, Fraser has opted for three changes to his squad, with Nudgee product Nick Conway coming into the starting side on the wing, while NSW products Hayden Lavercombe and TJ Talaileva complete the additional changes to the squad, joining Fittler on the bench.
The win over the Baabaas on Wednesday unearthed several exciting prospects coming through the pathway program, with captain Tom Robinson, his loose forward teammates Eli Langi and Heinz Lemoto starring in a physical contest, well supported by centre and vice-captain Frankie Goldsbrough and winger Heamasi Makasini in the victory.
However, the real standout was prop Kingsley Uys, with the barnstorming prop picking up two tries for his efforts and showing all the makings of a player similar to one of the Wallabies’ current best, Angus Bell.
The match will kick off at 2pm AEDT, with a live stream available on the New Zealand Rugby YouTube channel.
