Giants Are Releasing Quarterback

The New York Giants have a lot of questions in the quarterback room this season after electing to give Daniel Jones another year as the starter and choosing not to select one of the six QBs in the draft who went in the first 12 picks.

That QB room is beginning to take shape a bit more as the team has made a decision to release one of its backups with training camp getting underway.

USA Today’s Art Stapleton announced today that the team is releasing QB Nathan Rourke, who was serving as the team’s No. 4 QB and was barely getting any reps in the first three training camp practices.

Rourke signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars ahead of last season after winning the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian award in 2022 and spent most of last season on Jacksonville’s practice squad before being released in December.

He then signed with the New England Patriots before being released in May and signing with the Giants.

Rourke played two seasons in the CFL and had a strong college career at the University of Ohio.

At 26 years old and after being cut by three teams in the past 8 months, Rourke’s path to sticking in the NFL is getting cloudier by the day.

Newly-signed Drew Lock and fan-favorite Tommy DeVito remain the team’s two quarterbacks behind Jones on the depth chart, and the front office will be hoping the team won’t need to use three quarterbacks again like they did last year after Jones tore his ACL.
