The New York Jets made headlines across the NFL a couple of days ago when they abruptly fired head coach Robert Saleh after getting off to a 2-3 start.

While it could be argued that they’re just a few miscues away from being 3-2 or even 4-1 this season, they seem to have some real issues that go deeper than who their head coach is.

Joy Taylor said on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak” that firing Saleh seemed like a panic move and that the Jets’ season is practically over.

Saleh first became New York’s head coach for the 2021 season, well before the team traded for future Hall of Fame quarterback Rodgers, after four successful years as the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator.

He has had some success in the Big Apple by putting together one of the NFL’s better defensive teams that currently ranks fifth in points allowed and second in total yards given up.

But as Taylor mentioned, the main problem with the Jets is Rodgers.

He simply isn’t the player he used to be just a few years ago, and it looks like he has reached the point of no return when it comes to his decline.

Rodgers tore his Achilles on his first offensive series as a Jet last season, and on top of that, he has 15 full seasons of wear and tear as a starting quarterback in the NFL.

Despite all the talent the Jets have on both sides of the football, they will only go as far as Rodgers’ aging body will allow him to take them.
