Last season was a nightmare for veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings, as costly injuries ripped through the team and derailed any chance of making a run at the playoffs.

Cousins, who left the Vikings as a free agent to sign with the Atlanta Falcons this offseason, tore his Achilles last year, which can often be enough for an aging quarterback to end his NFL career.

Despite getting knocked out of last season, Cousins was given a lucrative four-year deal with the Falcons, with Atlanta desperate for an upgrade at quarterback.

This deal seemed like a risky move for the Falcons, as they took on an expensive risk with an older quarterback coming back from a significant injury.

Unfortunately, Week 1 of the 2024 season didn’t do much to prove he is ready for a fresh start and able to lead Atlanta moving forward.

Some believe the Achilles injury has resulted in the 36-year-old losing a step, and despite struggling in the opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cousins maintains he is capable of playing as usual.

“I feel good,” he said, via Marc Raimondi of ESPN. “The Achilles feels good. I feel like I can move and push as I normally would.”

As if Cousins wasn’t under enough pressure with young and talented rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. behind him on the depth chart, not looking the same on the field might result in a short stint as the Falcons’ starter.

Only time will tell how Cousins will hold up and if he still has what it takes to be a productive starter in the NFL.
