Ramsdale escapes Arsenal bench with Southampton move for reported £25M

Deadline day of the summer transfer window already has a big-money deal after Aaron Ramsdale completed a switch from Arsenal to Southampton.

The English international cost an initial £18 million with an extra £7 million in add-ons, according to BBC Sport.

Ramsdale was usurped as Arsenal’s No. 1 goalkeeper by David Raya in September of last season.

“I’m looking forward to this year, just getting back to what I do best and having a big smile on my face while doing it here,” Ramsdale said after signing a four-year contract on the south coast.

The 26-year-old made 89 appearances for Arsenal after joining from Sheffield United in 2021. He’s also played for Bournemouth and has experienced loan spells with Worksop Town, Chesterfield, and AFC Wimbledon.

Ramsdale was also Jordan Pickford’s backup in the England squad that finished as runner-up at Euro 2020 and Euro 2024 and was eliminated from the quarterfinal stage of the 2022 World Cup. He has five Three Lions caps.
