Tom Brady Believes The NFL Is Failing Young QBs

The NFL has changed a lot throughout the years.

One of the most significant changes in recent history has happened at the quarterback position, as the entire philosophy has changed.

In the past, quarterbacks were responsible for staying in the pocket, doing their job to get the ball to their pass-catchers.

While that is still true to a degree, quarterbacks are asked to do a lot more in today’s NFL.

Nearly every new quarterback that has come into the league over the last five years has at least some rushing upside, as many QBs take off on the run far more often than they used to.

With this change, there is also a trend of more and more rookies starting in their first NFL season, something that Tom Brady and others view negatively.

Brady sat down with Stephen A Smith to talk about this in a video Smith shared on Twitter.

“It’s just a tragedy that we’re forcing these rookies to play early. The reality is, the only reason we are is because we dumbed the game down, which has allowed them to play,” Brady said.

Brady discussed his time at the University of Michigan and how he had to fight for a spot on the depth chart.

Nothing was handed to him, and his hard work and determination were how he moved up and eventually became a starter.

He believes the same should be true in the NFL, that rookies should have to earn their spots and work hard to develop themselves rather than figuring it out on the fly.
