A Muay Thai fight ended with an illegal soccer kick on Friday and it might be one of the worst endings to a match we’ve seen all year.
ONE Championship was back for another event to stage ONE Fight Night 83 from inside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The Muay Thai fight card featured a plethora of exciting matchups, including an early affair between veteran Rungnarai Kiatmuu9 and Spanish fighter Mikel Fernandez. Unfortunately for fight fans in attendance, the strawweight tussle ended in disaster.
As expected, the more polished Rungnarai was able to gain control of the fight in the early going and land some damaging shots. He eventually caught Fernandez with a crisp left hook towards the end of the first round and knocked him to the canvas. That’s when Rungnarai inexplicably launched a soccer kick that landed directly to Fernandez’s head. The Spanish fighter was left out cold motionless. It was pretty scary.

While this is likely a result of a bang-bang moment in a wild Muay Thai fight it’s still a big-time error. Fernandez was clearly grounded as Rungnarai unleashed a brutal kick to the head. Luckily, Fernandez was able to regain consciousness, but this was one of the more terrifying stoppages we’ve seen in 2024.
